Ruth Roman was born on June 22, 1939 at Lynn Massachusetts. The actress is the eldest child of Lithuanian Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold & Abraham Roman. Her father was a carnival barker, was killed as a young girl, requiring her mother to help support the family by working as waitress or cleaning lady. Ruth was a student at the school located in Boston's tenement region, which was the most deplorable. She left school after two years in order to study acting. The path she chose was filled with problems. After landing a gig as a model in New York as a model for a detective magazine she was unable to get work in the stage. After working as a hat-check woman in a nightclub she quit her job and moved back to Boston. There she made a buck in the ushering industry during the in the daytime, while at night she was a part of the New England Repertory Company. It was her first role as an actor. Her studies in drama led her to receive a degree in the Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
